Batteries not included.

I have good news and bad news. Firstly, it’s been snowing, and I’ve not been at school. Secondly, the snow has been causing the electricity to only work sporadically throughout the day.

Since my laptop has a large battery, and the occasional flashes of power have kept it charged, I have managed to get something done today.

I started the turbine sometime last week, but didn’t bother to finish it as I didn’t know what I was going to do with it. The grass was of course achieved with particles, and despite my best efforts to get the bulb to look like it’s emitting realistic lights, I just couldn’t get it to work. I tried everything  from lamps to particles to halos, but they all produce horrible results, so I decided to just leave it switched off. I am quite happy with the rest of the piece however, the grass especially so, as only with infinite labour could I get it to look appealing.

As always, you can download this from the “My Works” section of the site.

Just a door.

Howdy.

I’ve had a lot going on lately, with the recent tumult of snow and my exams coming up, I haven’t had a lot of time to blend.

Thought I’d post this door today because, well, I’ve nothing better to post.

Enjoy?

I’m burning up.

(Thanks to the awesome blender artist and general FX whiz Nion for the tutorial on this, check it out!)

I have a fever, it’s ghastly.

You may recall that I earlier wrote about the fire festival that’s going on up here. Well, I was bored and my internet connection was slow as all hell, so I decided to brave the cold and go watch the locals commit some arson. The end result was that I had no fun and am now burning with fever, so that went well.

Anyway, back to blender. Seeing as yesterday was all about fire, and how now i feel as though i’m on fire, I decided my computer could use some fire too.

This effect is acheived using the particle system, which takes little specular balls like this, : and applies some node wizardry to get the fire effect.

As far as I can see, the node tree takes the specular highlights on the balls and turns them into the actual flames by blurring them and making them brighter. Then it makes the non specular diffuse shading the glow of the fire. It then blurs the balls to an amount reletive to the speed they are travelling at, giving the flame effect. My understanding of nodes is limited, so for better understanding you might want to view the full tutorial by Nion here, download my blend file from here, or study the node tree that I shall post below.

On Fire.

‘Ello.

Tonight in Shetland is the annual fire festival, known by the locals as ” Up Helly Aa,” which  my sources tell me is the largest fire festival in Europe. The gist of it is that everyone goes and gets dressed up as vikings, gets drunk and burns down a big boat. This is supposedly the greatest experience a Shetlander can achieve in his life.  Also, for some reason unbeknownst to me, a whole bunch of cross dressers turn up and join in. Then, in the time-honoured traditions of vikings everywhere,  they will go and conquer the local offlicence, no doubt spurred on by promise of even more liquor to drown themselves in.

I, as you have no doubt guessed, do not approve of this “bit of fun.” But I, as you have also no doubt guessed, am a horribly depressing person who sincerely wishes I could enshroud each and every one of you with the emotionally draining aura I emit.

I have no doubt the people who go out tonight to burn things will have a great time, but many of them will probably wake up to find their dresses axed to pieces and their faces covered in a sticky unknown substance. I however, am going to sit, nice and warm, in front of my computer screen, swinging around little virtual axes and killing little virtual men. Quite contented in the knowledge that I’m not going to wake up on fire.

Simply terrifying.

Alien Attack!

I’m just off to school for the week so I thought I’d post what I’ve been working on all day.

I planned to use this in an animation, but the rigging defeated me. It splits into three different segments. The ship, the middle bit,(has a rocket on it to blast the ship vertically into the sky,) and the walker bit.

As always, this is available for download if you should want it.
I’m off to school, see ya!

The force is strong in this one.

Found this really old thread over at blenderartists today, and decided to try it out. It works using halo materials to create the blades and the glow, really clever idea.

It took a bit of time, as the Photobucket images for the tutorial don’t work anymore. But if you want to see how I did it, head on over to the “My Works” section and pick up the blend.

Enjoy.

For the glory of Rome!

A roman sword and shield I modelled this week. I couldn’t find a decent texture for the shield, so it’s all geometry.

If you take off the excessive subsurf, it’s relatively low poly. Feel free to go check it out in the “My Works” section of the site.

Anyone for Sausages?

Here is something I did a while back. My Kitchen.

Looking back on this now, although it’s not a particularly bad piece, the noobish mistakes you can see in this picture are unbearable.

No shadows, horrible floor, lack of detail, no where near enough sausages, etc.

The list goes on, so I’ll just end by saying that, if the need does strike you, you can download this, as always, from the “My Works” page.

New Header

Hey Ho.

I quickly threw together a header in gimp, check it out.

This little image is from my most recent project, ” The Mouse and the Machine.” Rendered in Luxrender, it is, in my opinion, my best render to date. You can grab the blendfile here.

All hope abandon ye who enter here.

Hello! And Welcome.

I created this site at the beginning of 2010 to display my 3D works to the community at large. As well as to offer anything of value I create for use in your own projects.

A warning though, this blog will contain bad grammar, uncontrollable rants and of course my pathetic attempts at 3D ‘art’. Do not expect to find anything great within, but do feel free to have a look around, and maybe download a model or two.

All of my uploaded creations this site are attributed under the Creative Commons licence unless stated otherwise, so feel free to take what you please.

Yours

E.M
